Embraced by the Eastern Ghats at the eastern coast of India, the state of Orissa is truly an alluring state to visit. This typical tribal land of India is bedecked with numerous large and small rivers, impressive waterfalls, forest-clad blue hills of Eastern Ghats with diverse wildlife and striking sandy beaches with white sands.

With a vast shoreline stretching to an area of 250 miles, Orissa still encompasses some of the virgin beaches of our country within its territory. With each passing year, the beaches of the state are flocked by an increased number of tourists due to their serene ambiance. Some of the less explored beaches of the state are Chandipur, Puri and Gopalpur.
Puri Beach
Home to Lord Jagannath, the sacred beach of Puri is located 65 km from the capital city of Bhubaneshwar. Fine white sand sculptures and countless devotees are a common sight of this beach of Orissa. Pilgrims from various parts of the world comes here take the purification dip in the sea and pay their homage to Lord Jagannath. Puri beach has become a favourite destination for both National and International tourists during annual Beach festival.

This beach also offers to unique opportunity to witness the striking sunrise and the sunset along with the sand sculptures created by internationally famed sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik. Thanks to its serene ambiance, Puri beach is also famous for swimming and sun-bathing. While your trip to this beach, don't forget to gorge on some snacks available at the beach side food stalls and Kiosks shopping. You can even engage yourself in excursion to nearby places such as Konark temple etc.

Gopalpur Beach
Just located 16km from Berhampur, the Gopalpur beach of Southern Orissa is the pride of tiny town of Gopalpur. Serene ambiance, ample of sailing opportunities and unlimited options of fun has made this pristine beach as one of the popular beach resort of the state. Best for swimming, sailing and surfing, Gopalpur beach attracts loads of National and International tourists. In the ancient time, this beach has served as an important commercial seaport from where traders sailed to Java, Bali and Sumatra. Later, it became a transit point to export sugar and cheap labourers for the tea gardens of north-east India. So, to bring back its past glory, the state government has revitalize port and make it fit for modern ships.

Chandipur Beach
Another important beach destination of Orissa is Chandipur. This beach is just 16 kms from the Balasore Railway Station on Howrah-Madras line of South Eastern Railways. Chandipur beach offers a truly unique and exhilarating sight. Everyday during the low tide, water of Bay of Bengal recedes approximately to 5 kms whereas in the time of high tide, sea waves advances to the shore. The beach is also in close proximity to some other tourist places such as Remuna, Panchalingeswar, Aradi and Chandaneswar.
