Fatehpur Sikri, India

Fatehpur Sikri is a historical town, located at a distance of 37 km from Agra in Uttar Pradesh. It was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar by predominantly using red sandstone. This pre-historic site was built between 1571 and 1585 with the plan to make it a capital city but due to the scarcity of water in the area, he was compelled to shift his capital. The city is dotted with number of architectural wonders that are a unique blend of different architectural traditions.
