Sibsagar
This district is about 150 km east of the famous Kaziranga National Park. Sibsagar being the old capital of Assam, the city speaks of the ruling period of Ahom Kings. The town is built around the a large 129-acre artificial tank called the Sibsagar Lake and has a captivating scenic beauty.

Architectural Heritage of Assam
The enchanting monuments of the state got its existence since the 6th century A.D and can be easily classified into the old days dynasties viz: the Pre-Ahom Period, Ahom period, Koch dynasty etc. The famous Kamakhya temple constructed in 1565 A.D highlights the fine definition of Secular and Islamic architecture. Also many Pre-Ahom temples envelopes the Nilachala style. Many fort and monuments represent a typical monolithic hut or rock-cut temple structure. Some important monuments of the medieval era are Rang Ghar, Tolatalghar, Kareng Ghar, Rangmati Mosque, Pach Piran Durgah, Mirijumlar Masjid, Poa Mocca, and Dargah of Arjan Pir. Kholasapori pitha (pan cake), tel piha, til pitha, Aampitha, Narikolor laru,rice payesh are a few variety. Tamul (raw betel nut) and paan are generally served to conclude the meal.

The commercial capital of the north-east is the Guwahati. The busy market is well stocked,with a range of local handicraft and hand looms. The State Government department store, Pragiyotika at Ambari, Pan Bazar and Fancy Bazar sell the items like muga silk, bell metal items, cane work and woolen shawls with classy Naga and Manipuri jackets. Many local stores have the shimmering sitalpati, the age old mat making skill.
