Famous for rich green land of rolling plains and
dense forests Assam, the state nestling Manas Wildlife Reserve is the
gateway to the north eastern part of India.

Manas Wildlife Sanctuary, India
Jungle Highlights :Tigers, red pandas, Leopard, Panther and Elephants.Formerly known as North Kamrup, this beautiful park was declared a sanctuary on October 1, 1928. Manas National Park had been declared as a Manas Tiger Reserve in 1973. Consecutively it has been inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1985 and elevated to the position of a National Park on September 7, 1990. With 22 highly endangered species, this National Park of India played a very important position in the wildlife conservations movements in India.
Major wildlife attractions in Manas Wildlife Sanctuary
With a total of 55 mammals, 50 reptiles and several other Wildlife animals, Manas National Park houses by far the largest number of mammals of any protected area in India. Previously known as the North Kamrup, this beautiful natural abode inhabits animal rare species like Hispid Hare, Pigmy Hog and Golden Langur. Apart from these, one can also find here Tigers, Elephants, Rhinoceros, Wild Buffalo, Wild Boar, Sambhar, Swamp Deer, and Hog Deer.

During winter you will find here many migratory winged friends like Riverchats, Forktails, Cormorants, Ruddy, Shell-Duck etc.
Things to do in Manas Wildlife Sanctuary

Boat Safari
Boat ride in River Manas offers the best opportunity to enjoy the wildlife. Most animals come to the river bank to drink water, is the best time to sight them. The boat ride starts at Mathanguri and ends 35 km away. During your ride you make sure that you keep your cameras ready to capture some splendid snaps.
Elephant Safari
Elephant safari is quite popular. Elephant safari will take you through to the jungle interiors. Watch wild animals from a very close distance. Three hours elephant safari starts from Mothanguri starts in the morning. Elephant Safari in Manas Wildlife Sanctuary early in the morning through the grassland is a unique experience. But elephant rides are always subject to availability. First priority is given to Park authority for patrolling.
Jeep Safari
If you are traveling deep inside the park then a jeep Safari can be rewarding. Though forest department don't organize any jeep safari but you can hire your private jeeps. Hire your private jeeps from the Bansbari Range Office. Mainly Jeep Safari timings are 5:30 to 10 AM & 2:30 to 5:30 PM.
There are two routes to enjoy this Jeep Safari. The first route will take you from The Bansbari Lodge to Lotajhar-Mothanguri-Gyati-Uchilla-Kuribheel- Buraburi and back to the Lodge. This is approximately 60 km jeep ride.
The second route, which is approximate 90 km, is specially recommended for the people who are interested in bird watching. BY this route you first drive through villages to Koklabari then through jungle route to Alabari and Namlang.
Nature Walk
If you want to enjoy the nature walk then your walking route will start from near the Mothanguri Forest Lodge. In the first phase you will be walking along the riverbank, enjoy birding with several species of birds along the edge of the river. Afterwards you will follow an animal trail through dense foliage in the forest, accompanied by forest guards and a naturalist.
Tribal Dance
Watch local Bodo and tea tribes performing their traditional dance in the evening. Sit around a camp fire and watch traditional dances.
Jungle Resorts in Manas Wildlife Sanctuary
Though lodging options are very few in Manas National Park, but still you can get a moderately well staying option with Forest Lodge is located inside the park at Mothanguri. Get the feel of the jungle while living with all the other populace of Jungle. You can also stay at Inspection Bungalow, run by government and one of the scenic places to stay. Bansbari Lodge located just outside the entry gates of the park. There are two bungalows in Mathanguri. It is advised that you make early bookings for these bungalows.

How to reach Manas Wildlife Sanctuary
First fly to Borjhar Airport, which is well connected with the major cities of India like. For the cities like Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai, this airport has connecting flights every alternative day. From New Delhi railway station daily trains like Brahmaputra Mail (20:55) and Avadh Assam Exp (8:25) etc are easily available. From Mumbai and Chennai you can reach by Guwahati Exp and YPR Guwahati Exp. By road it is well connected with Guwahati. To reach park from Guwahati by road, take NH31 to Shimlaguri via Rangia, Nalbari and Howli.
